Problem
- High steam consumption

- Uptime of process steam traps < 75%
Objective
- To improve uptime of process traps, and sustain performance.
Solution
The plant runs about 200 tyre presses. The thermodynamic steam traps on the presses were replaced with float traps, yielding a benefit of about 10-15% in steam consumption reduction.

To bring percentage uptime of the process steam traps to benchmark levels, Forbes Marshall implemented a Maintenance, Repair and Operation (MRO) programme at the plant. SOPs were set up to record uptime. With regular visibility, defined maintenance procedures, and periodic training to their maintenance teams, uptime of the traps was significantly increased.
Benefits
- Process traps operate with an uptime of 99.48%, resulting in improved productivity and product quality
