Chemical Engineer

Location: Pune

Purpose of the role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Chemical Engineer with more than 5 years of experience in scrubber design, flue gas treatment systems, and reactor -based pollutant capture processes. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing, optimizing, and implementing advanced flue gas cleaning and solid sorbent CO2 capture systems for industrial and power generation applications.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Design and development of wet and dry scrubber systems, including absorber towers, mist eliminators, and associated process equipment.
  • Conceptualisation and design of flue gas reactors for simultaneous removal of CO2, SOx, and NOx.
  • Conduct mass and energy balance calculations, CFD analysis, and process simulations for gas–liquid and gas–solid systems.
  • Evaluate and select solid sorbents and catalysts for multi-pollutant capture and CO2 absorption.
  • Optimise process parameters (flow rate, temperature, pressure, residence time) for maximum pollutant removal efficiency and minimal energy consumption.
  • Prepare PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and instrumentation teams on equipment sizing, layout, and control strategy.
  • Support pilot-scale testing and transition of technologies to commercial scale.
  • Conduct performance assessment and retrofit studies for existing flue gas treatment installations.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental standards (CPCB, EPA, ISO 14001, etc.).
  • Provide technical documentation, reporting, and presentation support for R&D and client proposals.

Qualification and Requirements:

  • B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Chemical Engineering (Environmental or Process specialisation preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in flue gas treatment, scrubber design, or CO2 capture.
  • Strong understanding of gas–liquid/solid reaction engineering and mass transfer fundamentals.
  • Hands-on experience with process design tools (Aspen Plus / HYSYS / ANSYS Fluent / COMSOL / MATLAB).
  • Familiarity with solid sorbent CO2 capture and multi-pollutant control systems.
  • Knowledge of corrosion control, materials selection, and system integration in industrial environments.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and manage end-to-end project tasks.

Preferred Experience:

  • Design and commissioning of modular retrofit systems for power plants or process industries.
  • Involvement in pilot or demonstration projects for carbon capture.
  • Exposure to zero-emission or carbon-neutral process design concepts.
