Objective:
Forbes Marshall conducted a survey at one of the leading pulp-flavored beverage manufacturers in Indonesia. The survey’s primary objective was to recover condensate from HTST pasteurization.
Issues:
During our survey, we found that the plant faced difficulties recovering condensate. Also, the consumption of fuel (palm shells) was high.
Solution:
Our engineer studied the plant and established the steam loads at the equipment level and the quantity of recoverable condensate. The engineer also showed the size of the condensate recovery pump as well as the size of the condensate recovery lines which the plant would need to install to recover the condensate. Our team helped the plant to install the Pressure Powered Pump Package Unit to recover the condensate and documented the benefits after installation.
Benefits:
a. An improvement in the condensate recovery factor by 41% led to water savings of 5,249 m³/annum.
b. Condensate was recovered at 88℃, improving feedwater temperature from 27℃ to 54℃. This reduced fuel consumption by 4%.
c. The steam to Fuel ratio increased from 5.81 to 6.1.
d. The plant’s CO₂ emissions were reduced by 150 tons/year.
e. Fuel consumption was reduced by 86 tons/annum.
f. Total monetary saving of USD 8,351/annum.
