Desolventising Toaster
The Desolventising Toaster (DT) is a key equipment in solvent extraction plants and consumes about 40% of the total plant steam. The DT operates through multiple stages. Desolventisation uses controlled steam heating to remove residual hexane, the solvent used for oil extraction, ensuring minimal solvent loss. Toasting, improving meal (Deoiled cake or DOC) digestibility and its nutritional value and suitability as animal feed. Drying and cooling regulate the moisture content of the meal, preventing spoilage.
The process involves supplying both direct (open) and indirect steam heating, and improper steam management can impact plant safety, compromise DOC quality, increase hexane losses and energy consumption, affecting overall plant performance.
Common Problems Faced in the Desolventising Toaster and Heaters include:
- Hexane loss
- Overheating of DOC and OIL impacting quality parameters like colour
- High Steam Consumption
