Breaking Silos for Sustainability

Seminar by Forbes Marshall Digital team

Water and energy are two sides of the same coin. On 17 December 2025 we hosted a collaborative knowledge-sharing seminar for a major integrated steel plant in West Bengal, India. We brought together 50 team leaders to tackle an operational challenge: Cooling Circuit Efficiency. We shared our learnings from our Forbes Marshall Digital solutions, and primarily shared success stories seen using EverSense for WaterMAP.

The Challenge: Decision Isolation

Our primary takeaway from the session was clear: while different plant sections share common operational hurdles, decisions are often made in isolation. This siloed approach leads to missed opportunities for optimisation and conservation.

The Solution: Digitalisation and Quick responses

As emphasised by the Executive Director of the steel plant at the event, the path forward lies in the synergy between water and energy. By leveraging modern digital technologies to make operational touchpoints visible, teams can move from reactive troubleshooting to proactive collaboration.

Key Highlights:

  • Visibility is Step One: Having key areas of your plant digitally connected helps plant personnel get an overview of the plant 24×7.
  • Forbes Marshall Digital: Goes beyond just connectivity and real-time monitoring on our EverSense dashboard. Our specialists analyse data and provide regular reports, ensuring proactive actions can be taken, and deviations can be addressed. Quick actions measurably reduce water waste and energy consumption simultaneously.
  • Cross-Learning: Sharing best practices across plant sections to solve shared operational pain points and learning from success stories seen at other plants added value to discussions.

What’s Next?

We are taking these knowledge building sessions further within the group with plant-specific sessions across their locations, and similar seminars designed for other thermal power plants.
