MYR 59,643 saved through condensate and flash steam recovery for a palm oil refinery in Malaysia

A palm oil refinery in Johor, Malaysia, was facing issues with its condensate and steam system in the Refinery Complex. Forbes Marshall recommended thermal energy conservation solutions to address these issues and improve the steam and condensate system.

Objective

PROBLEM

  • Condensate was being released to the monsoon drain.
  • Flash steam was being vented.
  • Feedwater temperature was low.
Solution

SOLUTION

Forbes Marshall recommended and implemented the following thermal energy conservation solutions for the refinery complex:

  • A FlashJet™ Pump (FJP) was installed to recover condensate and flash steam to the feedwater tank.

  • A deaerator head was installed on the feedwater tank to enable the proper mixing of condensate, flash steam and makeup water.

Benefit

BENEFITS

  • Condensate recovery increased from 0 to 422 Kilograms/hour (930.3 Pounds/hour)
  • Flash steam recovery increased from 0 to 27 Kilograms/hour (59.5 Pounds/hour)
  • Annual monetary savings of MYR59,643 (~USD 14,135 *converted based on exchange rate)
