6.4% fuel reduced annually through condensate recovery for an Oleochemical plant in Malaysia

An oleochemical plant in Penang, Malaysia was not recovering condensate and flash steam. As a result the boiler feedwater temperature was just 30°C (86°F). Forbes Marshall recommended and implemented thermal energy conservation solutions in the plant.

Objective

PROBLEM

No recovery of condensate and flash steam across the plant.

This resulted in low boiler feedwater temperature (30°C i.e. 86°F).

Solution

SOLUTION

Forbes Marshall conducted a plant study and installed a FlashJet™ Pump (FJP) to recover condensate and flash steam.

Benefit

BENEFITS

Hourly condensate flow rate increased from 0 to 1,600 Kilograms (3,527 Pounds)

Feedwater temperature increased from 30 to 68.4°C (86 to 155.1°F)

Annual fuel (natural gas) consumption reduced by 1,930 MMBtu (i.e. 6.4%)

Annual monetary savings of MYR 179,435 (~USD 42,454.7 *converted based on exchange rates)
